Lakshmi Gogate

Hi, I'm Lakshmi Gogate. Welcome to my profile!

Lakshmi Gogate's research in developmental science focuses on the perceptual origins of language development, in particular, the embodied organism-environment interactions that result in infants’ learning of names for objects and actions. Lakshmi Gogate's  publications include a theoretical (Gogate & Hollich, 2010, Psychological Review) and a computational (Gogate, Prince & Matatyaho, 2009, JEP: HPP) model of word mapping. The method first used to demonstrate infants’ learning of word-object relations using synchrony is now being used in other language labs. Her lab, currently funded by the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, conducts cross-sectional and longitudinal studies with healthy full-term and preterm infants using multiple methods. It combines experimentation using either habituation or two-choice intermodal preference methods, and observation using semi-structured or naturalistic interactive play during which mothers name objects or actions to infants, with standardized assessments. Dr. Gogate's teaching interests include courses in developmental psychology, the psychology of learning, advanced child psychology, sensation and perception, and experimental psychology. Her teaching and research are student-centered with the primary goal to nurture future generations of developmental psychologists.  https://www.quora.com/Lakshmi-Gogate
